P2450 - Evaporative Emission Control System Switching Valve Performance Or Stuck Open

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Mercury Mariner and 2007 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
P2450 - EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM SWITCHING VALVE PERFORMANCE OR STUCK OPEN

Description:  The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the complete evaporative emission (EVAP) control system for the presence of a very small fuel vapor leak. The system failure occurs when a fuel vapor leak from an opening as small as 0.508 mm (0.020 inch) is detected by the EVAP running loss monitor test. If the EVAP system passes, the PCM commands the fuel tank isolation valve (FTIV) closed and reopens the canister vent. If a leak is detected now, the FTIV is suspect and the DTC is set.
Possible Causes:
  • Stuck open FTIV
  • Damaged FTIV
  • Contaminated FTIV
Diagnostic Aids:  Retrieve all continuous memory and on-demand self-test DTCs from the PCM.
Diagnose and repair circuit DTC P2418 before diagnosing this performance DTC.
