Pinpoint Test A: DTCs B1317 and B1318: Testing
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Ford Pickup, 2007 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2007 Ford F450 Super Duty, and 2007 Ford Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multimeter probes.
- A1 CHECK THE BATTERY VOLTAGE
- Measure the battery voltage between the positive and negative battery posts with the key ON engine OFF (KOEO), and with the engine running.
- Is the battery voltage between 10 and 13 volts with KOEO, and between 11 and 17 volts with the engine running?
- YES : Go to A2.
- NO : CHECK the charging system. REFER to CHARGING SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- A2 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: ABS Module C135
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between ground and:
- ABS module C135-2, circuit 534 (YE/LG), harness side.
- ABS module C135-32, circuit 533 (TN/RD), harness side.
- ABS module C135-31, circuit 532 (OG/YE), harness side.
- Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?
- YES : Go to A3.
- NO : REPAIR the affected circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- A3 CHECK THE ABS MODULE GROUND CIRCUITS
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure the resistance between ground and:
- ABS module C135-16, circuit 530 (LG/YE), harness side.
- ABS module C135-45, circuit 530 (LG/YE), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to A4.
- NO : REPAIR the affected circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- A4 CHECK FOR CORRECT ABS MODULE OPERATION
- Disconnect the ABS connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion.
- pushed-out pins.
- spread terminals.
- Connect the ABS connector and make sure that it is seated correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- YES : INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module in this article. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- NO : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
