Removal And Installation

WARNING: Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
WARNING: Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before working on or disconnecting any of the fuel lines or fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
  1. Disconnect the spring lock coupling at the fuel rail. For additional information, refer to FUEL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION article.
  2. Remove the upper intake manifold. For additional information, refer to ENGINE - 4.2L article.
  3. Disconnect the fuel rail pressure sensor vacuum and electrical connectors.
  4. Disconnect the 6 fuel injector electrical connectors.
  5. Remove the wire tie.

  6. Detach the wiring harness retainers from the fuel rail.
  7. Remove the 4 bolts and the fuel rail and injectors as an assembly.
    • To install, tighten to 10 N.m (89 lb-in).
  8. Remove and discard the fuel injector O-ring seals.

  9. NOTE: Lubricate the new O-ring seals with clean engine oil.
  10. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
