Rear Disc Brake Shield: Removal

- Remove the rear axle. For additional information, refer to REAR DRIVE AXLE/DIFFERENTIAL - FORD 8.8-INCH RING GEAR article, REAR DRIVE AXLE/DIFFERENTIAL - FORD 9.75-INCH RING GEAR article or REAR DRIVE AXLE/DIFFERENTIAL - FORD 10.25-INCH RING GEAR article.
- Remove the parking brake shoes. For additional information, refer to PARKING BRAKE AND ACTUATION article.
- Remove the 4 brake caliper support bracket nuts and bolts.
- To install, tighten to 81 Nm (60 lb-ft).
- If equipped, drill out the 2 rivets.
- Protect the seal and bearings from chips.
- It is not necessary to install new rivets.
- Separate the brake disc shield from the brake caliper support bracket and the rear axle housing.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
