Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) Monitor

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 35 other vehicles, including the 2007 Mercury Mountaineer, 2007 Mercury Monterey, 2007 Mercury Montego, 2007 Mercury Milan, and 2007 Mercury Mariner. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The VCT output driver in the powertrain control module (PCM) is checked electrically for opens and shorts. The VCT system is checked functionally by monitoring the closed loop camshaft position error correction. If the correct camshaft position cannot be maintained and the system has an advance or retard error greater than the calibrated threshold, a VCT control concern is indicated.

For additional VCT information, refer to VARIABLE CAMSHAFT TIMING (VCT) SYSTEM .
