Pinpoint Test K: The Luggage Compartment Lid Is Inoperative Using The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Transmitter
- K1 CHECK FOR THE CORRECT RKE TRANSMITTERS (INTEGRATED KEYS)
- Check that the correct RKE transmitters are used with the vehicle.
- Are all the correct RKE transmitters present?
NOTE: Make sure the RKE transmitters are those provided with the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) system and not from an aftermarket system or a dealer-installed system.Yes : GO to K2.
No : The system cannot be tested without the correct RKE transmitters. INFORM the customer that all the correct RKE transmitters need to be present to proceed with diagnosis of the system.
- K2 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LID LATCH WITH THE RKE TRANSMITTER
- Operate the luggage compartment lid latch with the RKE transmitter.
- Does the system operate correctly?
Yes : The system is operating correctly. INFORM the customer of the correct vehicle operation.
No : GO to K3.
- K3 CHECK THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LID RELEASE FOR CORRECT OPERATION
- Verify the luggage compartment lid release by pressing the luggage compartment lid switch.
- Does the luggage compartment lid release correctly?
Yes : GO to K4.
No : GO to PINPOINT TEST C .
- K4 CHECK FOR THE PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS) OPERATION NOTE: Leave the integrated key in the ON position for a minimum of 6 seconds.
- Key in ON position.
- Key in START position.
- Does the vehicle start?
Yes : GO to K5.
No : REFER to ANTI-THEFT - PATS to diagnose the PATS.
- K5 CHECK THE RKE TRANSMITTER OPERATION
- Remove the integrated key from the ignition lock cylinder.
- Press the luggage compartment lid button.
- Does the luggage compartment lid latch release?
Yes : The system is operating correctly. The RKE transmitter was out of synchronization.
No : GO to K6.
- K6 CHECK THE TRANSMITTER IDENTIFICATION CODE (TIC) IN THE SJB
- Connect the scan tool.
- Key in ON position.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: FUNCTION TEST.
- Monitor the TIC.
- Verify the RKE transmitter signal is being received. Press a button on the RKE transmitter while observing the diagnostic tool.
- Does the TIC show up on the diagnostic tool screen when a button is pressed?
NOTE: The vehicle must be unlocked electronically through the remote transmitter or door lock control switch prior to using any diagnostic tools.Yes : GO to K10.
No : GO to K7.
- K7 CHECK FOR PANIC BUTTON OPERATION
- Disconnect the scan tool.
- Key in OFF position.
- Press the panic button on the RKE transmitter.
- Does the panic alarm sound?
Yes : The luggage compartment lid release button on the RKE transmitter is damaged. INSTALL and PROGRAM a new integrated key. REFER to ANTI-THEFT - PATS .
No : GO to K8.
- K8 CHECK THE RKE TRANSMITTER BATTERY
- Using a thin coin, open the RKE transmitter.
- Do not clean off any grease from the battery terminals on the back surface of the circuit board.
- Verify the correct battery is used (CR2032).
- Remove the RKE transmitter battery and measure the voltage.
- Is the voltage greater than 2.5 volts?
Yes : GO to K9.
No : INSTALL a new battery (be sure the battery is seated correctly). DO NOT program the RKE transmitters (faulty or dead batteries do not erase TICs from memory). TEST the system for normal operation.
- K9 CHECK THE SECOND RKE TRANSMITTER OPERATION
- Press the luggage compartment lid button on the second RKE transmitter.
- Does the luggage compartment lid latch release?
Yes : INSTALL a new first integrated key and PROGRAM the key using the diagnostic tool. REFER to ANTI-THEFT - PATS .
No : GO to K13.
- K10 CHECK FOR RKE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCs)
- Key in OFF position.
- Key in ON position.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: RETRIEVE DTCs.
- Is SJB DTC B1138 or B1139 present?
Yes : If DTC B1138 is present INFORM the customer that a maximum of 4 integrated keys can be programmed. PROGRAM 2 integrated keys with the diagnostic tool, REFER to ANTI-THEFT - PATS . INFORM the customer that 2 additional integrated keys and 4 additional PATS keys can be programmed. REFER to the Owner's Literature. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No : GO to K11.
- K11 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FOR CORRECT OPERATION
- Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
- Check for:
- Corrosion
- Pushed-out pins
- Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes : INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . PROGRAM all the integrated keys. REFER to ANTI-THEFT - PATS . INFORM the customer that any integrated keys not present need to be programmed. TEST the system for normal operation. GO to K12.
No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
- K12 VERIFY THE RKE TRANSMITTER OPERATION
- Press the luggage compartment lid release button.
- Does the luggage compartment lid latch release?
Yes : The vehicle is operating correctly at this time. TEST the system for normal operation.
No : GO to K13.
- K13 CHECK THE SJB FOR CORRECT OPERATION
- Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- Corrosion
- Pushed-out pins
- Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes : INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULES . CYCLE each key to the ON position for a minimum of 6 seconds to program the RKE function of the integrated keys. INFORM the customer that any integrated keys not present need to be programmed. TEST the system for normal operation.
No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector TEST the system for normal operation.
