Removal and Installation

CAUTION:
When repairing the power steering system, care should be taken to prevent the entry of contaminants or premature failure of the power steering components can result.
NOTE:
Do not allow power steering fluid to contact the engine accessory drive belt.
- Disconnect the electrical connector, remove the 2 bolts and position the degas bottle aside.
- To install, tighten to 9 N.m (80 lb-in).
- Disconnect the 4 electrical connectors as follows:
- Camshaft position sensor (CMP)
- Heated oxygen sensor (HO2S)
- A/C pressure switch
- Cooling fan
- Release the 3 nuts and position aside the engine wiring harness.
- To install, tighten to 9 N.m (80 lb-in).
- Remove the engine accessory drive belt. For additional information, refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the power steering fluid reservoir. For additional information, refer to POWER STEERING FLUID RESERVOIR .
- Disconnect the power steering pressure line fitting from the power steering pump.
- Discard the Teflon® O-ring seal.
- To install, tighten to 65 N.m (48 lb-ft).
- Remove the 3 nuts and the power steering pump.
- To install, tighten to 25 N.m (18 lb-ft).
- To install, reverse removal procedure.
- Using the special tool, install a new Teflon® O-ring seal on the power steering pressure line fitting and the power steering pressure line fitting-to-pump adapter.
- Fill the power steering system. For additional information, refer to POWER STEERING SYSTEM FILLING .
NOTE:
Rotate the power steering pump pulley to access the nuts through the holes.
NOTE:
Whenever a hose fitting with a Teflon® O-ring seal is disconnected, a new Teflon® O-ring seal must be installed.
