Transmission Draining and Filling: Material

NOTE:
Transmission fluid usage:
- Gas engines use MERCON® V Fluid.
- Diesel engines use Motorcraft® Full Synthetic Fluid.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- Position a drain pan under the transmission and remove the drain plug.
- Drain the transmission fluid.
- Apply threadlock and sealer and install the drain plug.
- Tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).
- Remove the fill plug.
- Using an Oil Suction Gun, fill the transmission with the recommended fluid. For additional fluid capacity information, refer to GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Apply threadlock and sealer and install the fill plug.
- Tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).
NOTE:
Drain the transmission while the transmission fluid is warm.
NOTE:
Prior to removal, clean the area around the fill plug.
NOTE:
Do not overfill the transmission. This will cause transmission fluid to be forced out of the case.
