Catalytic Converter - 6.0L Diesel: Installation

NOTE: Do not tighten any fasteners until all components are aligned.
  1. Clean the mating surface of the exhaust Y-pipe flange-to-catalytic converter flange.
  2. Position the catalytic converter and connect the rubber isolator.
  3. Loosely install 2 new catalytic converter-to-exhaust downpipe nuts.
  4. NOTE: Using an abrasive pad, clean the exhaust coupling surface area of any surface rust.

  5. Place the new coupling on the catalytic converter-to-muffler joint or, if equipped, catalytic converter-to-exhaust intermediate pipe joint. Make sure the coupling is installed no more the 4 mm (0.15 in) from the back of the button on the end of the pipe.
  6. Align the exhaust system. For additional information refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM ALIGNMENT .
  7. Tighten the catalytic converter-to-exhaust downpipe nuts.
    • Tighten to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft).
  8. Tighten the catalytic converter-to-muffler coupling or, if equipped, catalytic converter-to-exhaust intermediate pipe coupling.
    • Tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).
