WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Ford Pickup, 2006 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2006 Ford F450 Super Duty, and 2006 Ford Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. K1 CHECK THE CLOCKWISE/COUNTERCLOCKWISE RELAY CIRCUITS FOR VOLTAGE
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Clockwise Relay C1129.
    • Disconnect: Counterclockwise Relay C1173.
    • Measure the voltage between clockwise motor relay C1129 pins 85 and 87, circuit 704 (DG/LG), harness side and ground.
    • Measure the voltage between counterclockwise motor relay C1173 pins 85 and 87, circuit 704 (DG/LG), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage 9 volts or greater?

    Yes  : GO to K2.

No  : INSPECT battery junction box (BJB) fuse 3 (30A) for an open. If OK, REPAIR circuit 704 (DG/LG) for an open. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

  2. K2 CHECK THE CLOCKWISE/COUNTERCLOCKWISE RELAY GROUND CIRCUITS
    • Measure the resistance between clockwise motor relay C1129-87a, circuit 57a (BK), harness side and ground.
    • Measure the resistance between counterclockwise motor relay C1173-87a, circuit 57b (BK), harness side and ground.

    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?

    Yes  : GO to K3.

No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

  3. K3 CHECK CIRCUIT 777 (YE) AND CIRCUIT 778 (OG) FOR AN OPEN
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Clockwise Motor Relay C1129.
    • Disconnect: Counterclockwise Motor Relay C1173.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the resistance between transfer case C350b-1, harness side and counterclockwise motor relay C1173-30, circuit 778 (OG), harness side.
    • Measure the resistance between transfer case C350b-2, harness side and clockwise motor relay C1129-30, circuit 777 (YE), harness side.

    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?

    Yes  : GO to K4.

No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

  4. K4 CHECK THE RELAY CONTROL CIRCUITS 781 (OG/LB) AND CIRCUIT 782 (BN/WH) FOR AN OPEN
    • Disconnect: 4x4 Module (GEM) C281b.
    • Measure the resistance between 4WD control module (GEM) C281b-6, harness side and counterclockwise motor relay C1173-86, circuit 781 (OG/LB).
