Driveshaft - Front: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  2. Index-mark the front driveshaft to the front axle and the transfer case.

  3. NOTE: It may be necessary to unseat the bearing cup assemblies by tapping on the yoke or bearing cup with a plastic or rubber soft-faced hammer.
  4. Remove and discard the fasteners.
    1. Remove and discard the front axle flange bolts.
    2. Remove and discard the U-joint retainers.
      • To install, tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).

  5. Remove and discard the 4 front driveshaft-to-transfer case bolts.
    • To install, tighten to 100 Nm (74 lb-ft).

  6. NOTE: Wrap electrical tape around the bearing cups to prevent them from falling off the U-joint spider.
  7. Remove the front driveshaft.
    • Compress and separate the front driveshaft from the front axle, then separate the driveshaft from the transfer case.
