Test E: Washer Pump Is Inoperative

- Using NGS tester, retrieve continuous DTCs stored in Generic Electronic Module (GEM). Clear DTCs. Perform ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and note all DTCs. If no DTCs exist, go to step 12. DTC Go To Step No. B1342 (1) B1450 2 B1458 6 B1460 10 (1) Replace GEM, clear DTCs and retest system. - Using NGS tester, observe PID WPMODE while turning wiper switch through all positions. If PID values do not agree with switch positions, go to next step. If PID values agree with switch positions, go to step 6.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect multifunction switch 7-pin harness connector C202b. Measure resistance between terminals No. 4 and 6 at multifunction switch harness connector C202b (component side) while depressing and releasing washer switch. See Fig 1. If resistance is 5 ohms or less with switch depressed and more than 10 k/ohms with switch released, go to next step. If resistance is not 5 ohms or less with switch depressed and more than 10 k/ohms with switch released, replace multifunction switch. See MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Clear DTCs and retest system.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance in Light Blue/Orange wire between multifunction switch harness connector C202b terminal No. 6 and GEM harness connector C201a terminal No. 13. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace GEM. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Clear DTCs and retest system. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Light Blue/Orange wire between GEM and multifunction switch. Clear DTCs and retest system. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove washer pump relay. Washer pump relay is located in battery junction box. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and washer pump relay socket terminal No. 3 (White/Black wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in White/Black wire between washer pump relay and central junction box harness connector C270a. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Clear DTCs and retest system.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, observe PID WASHRLY while triggering active command WASHRLY. If PID WASHRLY agrees with command mode, go to step 12. If PID WASHRLY does not agree with command mode and display is OFFO-G, go to next step. If PID WASHRLY does not agree with command mode and display is ON-B, go to step 10. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Clear DTCs and retest system.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check washer pump relay. See RELAYS under COMPONENT TESTS. If relay is okay, go to next step. If relay is defective, replace defective relay. Clear DTCs and retest system.
- Disconnect GEM 26-pin harness connector C201a. Measure resistance in Tan/Red wire between GEM harness connector C201a terminal No. 24 and washer pump relay socket terminal No. 2. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Tan/Red wire between GEM and washer pump relay. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Clear DTCs and retest system.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance between ground and washer pump relay socket terminal No. 2 (Tan/Red wire). If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, go to step 16. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Tan/Red wire between GEM and washer pump relay. Clear DTCs and retest system.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check washer pump relay. See WIPER RUN/PARK & WASHER RELAYS under COMPONENT TESTS. If relay is okay, go to next step. If relay is defective, replace defective relay. Clear DTCs and retest system.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and washer pump relay socket terminal No. 2 (Tan/Red wire). If voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage does not exist, repair short to voltage in Tan/Red wire between GEM and washer pump relay. Clear DTCs and retest system.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between washer pump relay terminals No. 1 and 3 (White/Black wires) and ground. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in appropriate White/Black wire and test system operation.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check washer pump relay. See WIPER RUN/PARK & WASHER RELAYS under COMPONENT TESTS. If relay is okay, go to next step. If relay is defective, replace defective relay. Clear DTCs and retest system.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect washer pump harness connector C137. Measure resistance in Black/White wire between washer pump harness connector C137 and washer pump relay socket terminal No. 5. See Figure. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, reinstall washer pump relay and go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/White wire between washer pump and washer pump relay. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Clear DTCs and retest system.
- Measure resistance between ground and washer pump harness connector C137 Black wire terminal. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace washer pump. See WASHER PUMP & RESERVOIR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire between washer pump and ground. Ground is located beside right radiator support. Clear DTCs and retest system.
- Disconnect all GEM harness connectors and remove GEM from central junction box. Check for backed out, corroded or loose terminals. Repair as necessary. Connect all GEM harness connectors and connect to central junction box. Operate all windows from all switches. If problem still exists, replace GEM. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If problem does not exist, system is okay.
