Removal and Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Mercury Mariner and 2006 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Throttle body bore and plate area have a special coating and cannot be cleaned, or possible damage to the throttle body can occur.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to BATTERY, MOUNTING AND CABLES .
  2. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. For additional information, refer to INTAKE AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING - 3.0L (4V) .
  3. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  4. Remove the 2 bolts and the accelerator cable snow shield.
    • To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
  5. Disconnect the speed control and accelerator cables from the throttle body.
  6. Disconnect the throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connector and detach the wiring retainer.
  7. Detach the transaxle vent tube from the stud bolt.
  8. Disconnect the 2 throttle body coolant hoses.
  9. Detach the wiring retainer from the throttle body stud bolt.
  10. Remove the 3 bolts, the stud bolt and the throttle body.
    • Discard the gasket.
    • To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
    NOTE: Clean and inspect all sealing surfaces.
  11. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Install a new throttle body gasket.
  12. Fill and bleed the cooling system. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
