Crankshaft Rear Seal with Retainer Plate: Removal

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
- Remove the flexplate. For additional information, refer to FLEXPLATE .
- Remove the engine-to-transmission spacer plate.
- Use the special tools to remove the crankshaft oil slinger.
- Use the special tools to remove the crankshaft rear seal.
- Remove the 2 engine mount nuts.
- Install the special tool to the RH cylinder head.
- Install the special tool to the LH cylinder head.
- Install the special tool.
- Using the special tool, raise the engine.
- Drain the engine oil.
- Install the drain plug when finished.
- Tighten to 13 Nm (10 lb-ft).
- Detach the 2 pin-type wire harness retainers.
- Remove the oil pan bolts in the sequence shown and partially lower the oil pan.
- Remove the 3 bolts and position the oil pump screen and pickup tube into the oil pan and remove.
- Discard the pickup tube O-ring seal.
- Discard the oil pan gasket.
- Remove the 6 bolts and the crankcase rear seal retainer plate.
WARNING:
If equipped with fire suppression system, depower the system. For important safety warnings and procedures, refer to FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM
