Test B: Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor Circuit Short To Power (DTC B1220)

NOTE:
After performing any repair, clear DTCs and retest system.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below center of instrument panel, right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Observe Natural Gas Vehicle Module (NGVM) PID TANKPR. If PID TANKPR displays zero (psi), go to next step. If PID TANKPR does not display zero, inspect harness connectors for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Clear DTCs. Test system for normal operation. If DTC B1220 is retrieved again, go to step 7.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect fuel tank pressure sensor harness connector C4127. Fuel tank pressure sensor is located in rear of in-bed fuel tank solenoid valve. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage at NGVM harness connector C1009 by backprobing between terminals No. 7 (Dark Green/Orange wire) and No. 46 (Brown wire). See Figure. If voltage is more than 0.61 volt, go to next step. If voltage is 0.61 volt or less, replace fuel tank pressure sensor. See FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect NGVM harness connector C1009. NGVM is located on center radiator support behind radiator. Measure resistance at NGVM harness connector C1009 between terminals No. 7 (Dark Green/Orange wire) and No. 46 (Brown wire). If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short between Dark Green/Orange wire and Brown/White wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Connect NGVM harness connector C1009. Measure resistance at NGVM harness connector C1009 by backprobing between terminals No. 7 (Dark Green/Orange wire) and No. 37 (Red wire). If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to voltage in Dark Green/Orange wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Check fuel tank solenoid operation. See UNABLE TO VENT FUEL TANKS OR FUEL LINES under FUEL SYSTEMS in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - EEC-V - NGV article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If all fuel tank solenoids operate correctly, go to next step. If any fuel tank solenoids do not operate correctly, repair as necessary.
- Check fuel system for leaks. See COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS LEAK TEST under FUEL SYSTEMS in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - EEC-V - NGV article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If fuel system does not leak, go to next step. If fuel system leaks, repair as necessary.
- Disconnect NGVM harness connector C1009. Inspect for pushed out terminals and corrosion. Reconnect NGVM harness connector, ensuring it is connected correctly. Operate system and verify if concern still exists. If concern still exists, replace NGVM. See NATURAL GAS VEHICLE MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and repeat self-test.
