Circuit Function

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 8 other vehicles, including the 2006 Ford RV Cutaway, 2006 Ford Pickup, 2006 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2006 Ford F450 Super Duty, and 2006 Ford Econoline. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The IAT sensor is a thermistor-type sensor with a variable resistance that is inversely proportional to temperature changes. When interfaced with the powertrain control module (PCM), it produces a 0-5 volt analog signal that measures temperature.

The IAT sensor's primary function is to measure the intake air temperature to control timing and fuel rate when cold starting. Continuous monitoring by the IAT sensor limits smoke emission.
