Test T: Check Fuel Cap Indicator Inoperative

- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect PCM harness connector C175. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect a 10-amp fused jumper wire between harness connector C175 terminal No. 70 (Black/White wire) and ground. If check fuel cap indicator illuminates, go to appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If check fuel cap indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C220a. Measure resistance of Black/White wire between harness connector C220a terminal No. 5 and harness connector C175 terminal No. 70. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/White wire and test system operation.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Measure voltage between harness connector C220a terminal No. 5 (Black/White wire) and ground. If any voltage is present, repair short to power in Black/White wire and test system operation. If no voltage is present, go to next step.
- Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect harness connectors for corrosion and pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors, ensuring they are connected correctly. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and perform self-test.
