Removal and Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Lincoln LS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Refrigerant compressor oil (mineral oil) should be used to lubricate R-134a refrigerant system O-ring seals only and should not be added to the R-134a refrigerant system as an A/C compressor lubricant. PAG refrigerant compressor oil only should be used as an A/C compressor lubricant.
NOTE: Installation of a new receiver/drier is not required when repairing the air conditioning system except when there is physical evidence of contamination from a failed A/C compressor or damage to the receiver/drier.
NOTE: Lubricate the coolant hoses with plain water only if needed.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  2. Recover the refrigerant. For additional information, refer to CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
  3. Drain the engine coolant. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  4. Remove the fresh air inlet duct. For additional information, refer to AIR DISTRIBUTION & FILTERING .
  5. Remove the RH air deflector shield.
  6. Remove the receiver/drier manifold and tube fitting nut.
    • Discard the O-ring seals.
    • To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
  7. Remove the thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) manifold and tube bracket bolt.
  8. Remove the rear heater tube bracket bolt.
    • To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
  9. Disconnect the compressor manifold and tube inlet fitting.
    • Discard the O-ring seals.
  10. Release the lower heater hose clamp and disconnect the lower heater hose.
  11. Release the clamps and disconnect the heater core heater hoses.
  12. Remove the front heater tube bracket bolt.
    • To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
  13. Remove the 3 wire harness bracket bolts.
    • To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
  14. Remove the TXV fitting bolt.
    • Discard the O-ring seals.
    • To install, tighten to 21 Nm (15 lb-ft).
  15. Remove the TXV manifold and tube assembly.
  16. Lubricate the refrigerant system with the correct amount of clean PAG oil. For additional information, refer to CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
  17. Evacuate, leak test and charge the refrigerant system. For additional information, refer to CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM-GENERAL INFORMATION .
