Test I: Powertrain Control Module Id Does Not Match Instrument Cluster Id

  1. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below center of instrument panel, right of steering column. Using NGS tester, perform instrument cluster self-test. If DTC B2139 exists, go to next step. If DTC B2139 does not exist, system is functioning properly at this time.
  2. Perform SECURITY ACCESS PROCEDURE  under PROGRAMMING. From NGS menu, select PARAMETER RESET command for instrument cluster. Do not make any other selections in this menu. Use diagnostic card for PCM active command keep alive memory reset. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Select PARAMETER RESET command for PCM. Turn ignition switch to RUN position for 3 seconds. Clear continuous DTCs. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Using NGS tester, retrieve continuous DTCs. If DTC B2139 does not exist, system is functioning properly at this time. If DTC B2139 still exists, verify PCM calibration is correct for vehicle. Check for any PCM calibration related technical service bulletins, if none exist, go to next step.
  3. Replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Cycle ignition switch to RUN position using 2 encoded ignition keys. Repeat self-test. If DTC B2139 exists again, replace PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Repeat self-test and clear DTCs.
