Wheel Knuckle - E550: Removal

Remove the wheel and tire assembly. For additional information, refer to WHEELS & TIRES article .
Disconnect the speed sensor electrical connector.

Detach the sensor harness from the brake hose.

CAUTION: Do not allow the brake caliper to hang from the brake hose or damage to the hose can result.

Remove the bolts and position the caliper, pads and anchor plate aside.
Remove the bolt.

Remove the nuts, wheel bearing, hub and brake disc as an assembly.

Remove and discard the cotter pin and nut.
- Using a suitable separator, detach the tie-rod from the wheel knuckle.

Remove the upper knuckle cap and seal.

Remove the lower knuckle cap and seal.

Remove the lock pin retaining nut.
- Use a bronze drift to remove the lock pin.

Using a bronze drift, drive out the spindle pin.

Remove the knuckle, bearing and shim(s) from the axle assembly.
