Removal and Installation

- Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, FILLING AND BLEEDING .
- Remove the cooling fan. For additional information, refer to COOLING FAN .
- Remove the accessory drive belt. For additional information, refer to ACCESSORY DRIVE .
- Remove the bolts and the coolant pump pulley.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
- Remove the bolts and the coolant pump.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
- Remove and discard the coolant pump O-ring.
- Clean the mating surfaces with a plastic scraper, if necessary, and metal surface prep. Follow the directions on the packaging.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Install a new coolant pump O-ring. Lubricate the O-ring with clean engine coolant.
CAUTION:
Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths. Use a plastic scraping tool to remove all traces of the old O-ring.
