Removal and Installation

  1. Remove the LH and RH valve covers. For additional information, refer to VALVE COVER - RH  and VALVE COVER - LH .
  2. Remove the fuel rail. For additional information, refer to FUEL CHARGING AND CONTROLS - 4.0L SOHC .
  3. Remove the cooling fan. For additional information, refer to ENGINE COOLING .
  4. Rotate the crankshaft until the camshaft for the cylinder being serviced is at base circle.

  5. NOTE: Mark each camshaft roller follower to make sure it is returned to its original position.

  6. Using the special tool, remove the camshaft roller followers.
  7. NOTE: The camshaft roller followers must be installed in their original positions.
    NOTE: Lubricate the camshaft roller followers with clean engine oil.
  8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
