Plunging & Fixed CV Joint: Reassembly

NOTE:
Ensure all components are clean and free of foreign material.
- Lubricate the outboard CV joint with Ford High Temperature Constant Velocity Joint Grease (E43Z-19590-A). Slide the outboard axle shaft boot onto axle shaft. Install a new axle shaft bearing retainer circlip.
- Use a soft-face hammer to install the outboard CV joint by gently tapping it onto the axle shaft. Remove any excess grease on the mating surfaces and slide the outboard axle shaft joint boot forward onto the outboard CV joint.
- Remove any excess air trapped in the outboard axle shaft boot using a cloth covered screwdriver after adjusting the outboard axle shaft boot spacing. See Fig 1 . Using the CV Boot Clamp Crimper (205-343, T95P-3514-A), install 2 new outboard axle shaft boot clamps. See Fig 2 .
- Slide the inboard axle shaft boot onto axle shaft. Install the inner snap ring. See Figure . Line up the marks onto the axle shaft and tripod joint. Install the tripod joint onto the axle shaft. Install the outer snap ring. See Figure .
- Lubricate the 3 tripod joint needle bearings with Ford High Temp Constant Velocity Joint Grease (E43Z-19590-A). Fill the tripod joint housing with the remaining grease. Position the tripod housing onto the tripod joint.
- Position the inboard axle shaft boot onto inboard CV joint. See Fig 3 . Position the inboard axle shaft boot clamps.
- Remove any excess air trapped in the axle shaft boot using a cloth covered screwdriver after adjusting the axle shaft boot spacing. See Fig 1 . Using the CV boot clamp crimper, install 2 new outboard CV joint boot clamps. See Fig 2 . Remove the axle shaft from the vise. Install the front wheel axle shaft. See AXLE SHAFTS under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
