Pinpoint Test C: The Steering Wheel Control Illumination Is Inoperative: Testing

C1 CHECK THE HORN OPERATION
- Check the operation of the horn by pressing the horn pad.
- Does the horn operate correctly?
- Yes : GO to C2.
- No : REFER to HORN to continue diagnosis of the horn.
C2 CHECK CIRCUIT 1417 (LG/RD) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Clockspring C2274a.
- Key in ON position.
- Place the headlamp switch to the parking lamps ON position.
- Rotate the instrument panel dimmer switch to the full illumination position.
- Measure the voltage between the clockspring C2274a-3, circuit 1417 (LG/RD), harness side and ground.

- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : TURN the headlamp switch off. GO to C3.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
C3 CHECK THE CLOCKSPRING FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Remove the driver air bag module. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
- Disconnect: Upper Clockspring 5-Pin Connector.
- Measure the resistance between the clockspring C2274a pin 3, component side and the upper clockspring 5-pin connector pin 1, component side.

- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : INSTALL new steering wheel controls. REFER to SPEED CONTROL or AUDIO UNIT as necessary. INSTALL the driver air bag module. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : INSTALL a new clockspring. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM . INSTALL the driver air bag module. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM . TEST the system for normal operation.
