Installation (3.0L)

CAUTION:
Synchro Positioning Tool (303-589) must be used during the installation of the replacement synchronizer assembly. Failure to follow this procedure will result in the fuel system being out of time with the engine, possibly causing engine damage.
- Install Synchro Positioning Tool (303-589) on synchronizer by rotating tool until it engages the notch in the camshaft synchronizer housing and the armature. See Fig 1.
- Install camshaft synchronizer housing assembly so the arrow on the Synchro Positioning Tool (303-589) is 38 degrees from centerline of the engine with sychronizer assembly fully installed. See Fig 2 and Fig 3 . During installation the arrow on the synchro positioning tool will rotate clockwise until the oil pump intermediate shaft and camshaft gear engages.
- Install and tighten camshaft synchronizer hold down bolt. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install CMP sensor to camshaft synchronizer. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION (3.0L & 4.0L) .
CAUTION:
It is very important to coat gear on camshaft synchronizer with engine oil prior to installation. Failure to do so could result in gear failure.
