Removal & Installation

CAUTION:
A sudden impact could damage bearing or collapse steering column. Steering column malfunction or failure may result. When removing steering wheel, do not use a knock-off type steering wheel puller, or strike steering wheel or shaft with a hammer.
- Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Ensure front wheels are in straight-ahead position. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Remove driver-side air bag module. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE .
- Loosen steering wheel mounting bolt several turns. Mark steering wheel hub and steering shaft for reassembly reference. Using 2-Jaw Puller (205-116/T77F-4220-B1) or equivalent, pull steering wheel from steering shaft. Remove and discard steering wheel retaining bolt. Route clockspring wiring harness through steering wheel as wheel is lifted from steering shaft.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Install NEW steering wheel mounting bolt and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
