Removal and Installation

NOTE: When a new lock cylinder is installed, the tailgate lock cylinder, door lock cylinders and the ignition lock cylinder should be installed as a set. This eliminates carrying an extra key which fits only 1 lock. If a new key is to used, the new key code will be attached to a tag.
NOTE: The individual door lock cylinders are repaired by discarding the inoperative lock cylinder and building a new lock cylinder using the appropriate lock repair package. The lock repair package includes a detailed instruction sheet to build a new lock cylinder to the current key code of the vehicle.
  1. Remove the steering wheel. For additional information, REFER to STEERING COLUMN .
  2. Remove bolt and the lower steering column shroud.
  3. NOTE: The steering column shift is shown, the floor console shift is similar.
  4. Position the ignition lock cylinder cover aside.
  5. Disconnect the PATS transceiver electrical connector.
  6. Remove the screw and the PATS transceiver.
  7. With the ignition switch in the ON position, press the locking pin with a suitable tool and remove the lock cylinder.
  8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
