Pinpoint Test H: The Remote Keyless Entry Keypad Illumination Is Inoperative

  1. H1 CHECK THE RKE KEYPAD SWITCH PID 
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Vehicle Security Module KEYPAD PIDS.
    • Press each RKE keypad button while viewing the vehicle security module KEYPAD PIDS.
    • Do the PID values agree with the RKE keypad button positions? 
    • Yes  : GO to  H2.
    • No  : GO to PINPOINT TEST B  to diagnose the incorrect RKE keypad PID values.
  2. H2 CHECK THE VEHICLE SECURITY MODULE OUTPUT FUNCTION 
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Activate the keypad backlighting on and off active commands.
    • Trigger LIGHT ON then OFF.
    • Does the RKE keypad backlighting turn on and off when commanded? 
    • Yes  : GO to  H6.
    • No  : GO to H3.
  3. H3 CHECK CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Keypad C500.
    • Measure the resistance between the RKE keypad C500-3, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to  H4.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  4. H4 CHECK CIRCUIT 66 (LB) FOR A SHORT TO BATTERY 
    • Disconnect: Vehicle Security Module C3008a.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the RKE keypad C500-7, circuit 66 (LB), harness side and ground.

    • Is any voltage present? 
    • Yes  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • No  : GO to H5.
  5. H5 CHECK CIRCUIT 66 (LB) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance between the RKE keypad C500-7, circuit 66 (LB), harness side and the vehicle security module C3008a-10, circuit 66 (LB), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new RKE keypad. REFER to REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
  6. H6 CHECK FOR CORRECT VEHICLE SECURITY MODULE OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the vehicle security module connectors.
    • Check for:
      • For corrosion
      • For pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the vehicle security module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new vehicle security module. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
    • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
