Removal and Installation

CAUTION: Brake fluid is harmful to painted and plastic surfaces. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, wash the surface with water immediately.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  2. Using the special tool, disconnect the hydraulic line from the clutch slave cylinder.
    • Clean the area around the quick disconnect coupling.

  3. Lower the vehicle.
  4. Remove the clutch pedal position (CPP) switch.
    1. Disconnect the CPP switch electrical connector.
    2. Disconnect the clutch master cylinder push rod from the pedal assembly.
    3. Remove the CPP switch.
      • Lift the upper cover from the lock tabs and pull the cover upward. Rotate and remove the switch from the push rod.

  5. Unclip the hydraulic line from the bulkhead.

  6. Remove the clutch reservoir.

  7. Unlock and remove the clutch master cylinder.
    • Twist the clutch master cylinder counterclockwise 45 degrees to unlock it from the pedal support bracket.

  8. Remove the clutch reservoir, clutch master cylinder and hydraulic line as an assembly.
  9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Install a new clutch master cylinder push rod retainer.
    • If installing a new clutch master cylinder, install a new clutch master cylinder push rod.
