Pinpoint Test K: The STOPLAMPS Are On Continuously

  1. K1 CHECK THE STOPLAMP SWITCH OPERATION 
    • Disconnect: Stoplamp Switch C278.
    • Do the stoplamps continue to illuminate? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K2.
    • No  : INSTALL a new stoplamp switch. REFER to STOPLAMP SWITCH . TEST the system for normal operation.
  2. K2 CHECK THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) CONTROL MODULE 
    • Disconnect: ABS Control Module C135.
    • Do the stoplamps continue to illuminate? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K3.
    • No  : GO to  K7.
  3. K3 CHECK CIRCUIT 511 (LG) FOR A SHORT TO POWER 
    • Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202c.
    • Does any stoplamp continue to illuminate? 
    • Yes  : If high mounted stoplamp, REPAIR circuit 511 (LG). TEST the system for normal operation.

      If rear stoplamp, GO to  K4.

    • No  : INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES . TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. K4 CHECK THE CIRCUIT TO THE CENTRAL JUNCTION BOX (CJB) 
    • Disconnect: CJB C270e.
    • Does any stoplamp continue to illuminate? 
    • Yes  : GO to  K5.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 9 (LG/OG) (LH stoplamp) or 5 (OG/LB) (RH stoplamp) between the multifunction switch and the CJB as necessary. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. K5 CHECK THE CIRCUIT TO THE REAR LAMP 
    • Disconnect: CJB C270j.
    • Does any stoplamp continue to illuminate? 
    • Yes  : REPAIR circuit 9 (LG/OG) (LH stoplamp) or 5 (OG/LB) (RH stoplamp) between the CJB and the rear lamp as necessary. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : GO to K6.
  6. K6 CHECK CIRCUIT 52 (YE) OR 64 (DG) FOR A SHORT TO POWER 
    • Disconnect: CJB C270k.
    • Measure the voltage between CJB C270k-2, circuit 52 (YE) (LH rear lamp), harness side and ground; or between CJB C270j-16, circuit 64 (DG) (RH rear lamp), harness side and ground

    • Is any voltage present? 
    • Yes  : REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : REPAIR or INSTALL a new CJB. TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. K7 CHECK FOR ABS MODULE OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all ABS module connectors.
    • Check for:
      • Corrosion
      • Pushed-out pins
    • Connect all ABS module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to ANTI-LOCK CONTROL . TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
