Test P: Speedometer Inaccurate

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) or Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Using NGS/WDS tester, monitor PCM PID VSS(+). Start vehicle. Test drive vehicle and compare PID value on NGS/WDS tester to speedometer. If speeds do not match, go to next step. If speeds match, system is okay at this time.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect vehicle speed sensor harness connector C903 (C1899 on M/T). Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 2 (White/Blue wire) at vehicle speed sensor harness connector. See Figure . If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, repair or replace instrument cluster as necessary. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in White/Blue wire between vehicle speed sensor and instrument cluster and/or short to ground in White/Violet wire between PCM and splice S60. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
