Test N: Speedometer Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) or Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Retrieve and document continuous DTCs. Clear continuous DTCs. Test drive vehicle for 5 minutes. Retrieve continuous DTCs. If DTC P0500, P0501, P0502 or P0503 are not retrieved, go to next step. If DTC P0500, P0501, P0502 or P0503 are retrieved, repair vehicle speed sensor concern. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - EEC-V (GASOLINE) article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect vehicle speed sensor harness connector C903 (C1899 on M/T). Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C808B. Measure resistance in White/Blue wire between terminal No. 6 at instrument cluster harness connector C808B and terminal No. 2 at vehicle speed sensor harness connector. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair or replace instrument cluster as necessary. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in White/Blue wire.
