Test S: Seat Belt Warning Chime Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Using NGS tester, monitor Generic Electronic Module (GEM) PID D_SBELT while buckling and unbuckling driver's seat belt. If PID always indicates FSTND, go to next step. If PID always indicates UNFSTD, go to step  3 . If PID agrees with seat belt position, replace GEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect GEM harness connector C248. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 5 (Brown/Light Blue wire) at GEM harness connector C248. See Figure . If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, go to step  6 . If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace GEM.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect GEM harness connector C248. Measure voltage at terminal No. 5 (Brown/Light Blue wire) at GEM harness connector C248. See Figure . If voltage does not exist, go to next step. If voltage exists, repair short to voltage in Brown/Light Blue wire.
  4. Disconnect driver's seat belt switch harness connector C302. Measure resistance between ground and Black wire terminal at driver's seat belt switch harness connector C302. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire.
  5. Measure resistance in Brown/Light Blue wire between driver's seat belt switch harness connector C302 and terminal No. 5 at GEM harness connector C248. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to step  7 . If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Brown/Light Blue wire.
  6. Measure resistance between terminals at driver's seat belt switch (component side) while buckling and unbuckling driver's seat belt. Resistance should be 5 ohms or less when seat belt is buckled and greater than 10 k/ohms when seat belt is unbuckled. If resistance is as specified, repair short to ground in Brown/Light Blue wire. If resistance is not as specified, replace driver's seat belt switch.
  7. Measure resistance between terminals at driver's seat belt switch (component side) while buckling and unbuckling driver's seat belt. Resistance should be 5 ohms or less when seat belt is buckled and greater than 10 k/ohms when seat belt is unbuckled. If resistance is as specified, replace GEM. If resistance is not as specified, replace driver's seat belt switch.
