Test E: Temperature Gauge Inaccurate

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect coolant temperature sender harness connector C182. Connect Instrument Gauge System Tester (014-R1063) to Red/White wire terminal at coolant temperature sender harness connector C182. Set tester at 275 ohms. Turn ignition switch to RUN position, wait 60 seconds and read gauge. If gauge reads cold, go to next step. If gauge does not read cold, go to step  3 .
  2. Set tester to 18.3 ohms, wait 60 seconds and read gauge. If gauge does not read hot, go to next step. If gauge reads hot, replace coolant temperature sender.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C250. Measure resistance in Red/White wire between coolant temperature sender harness connector C182 and terminal No. 9 at instrument cluster harness connector C250. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Red/White wire.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check continuity of instrument cluster printed circuit between terminals of printed circuit flex connection and terminals at gauge. See FLEX CONNECTOR C250  table. If there is continuity in each circuit, replace fuel gauge/temperature gauge. If continuity is not present on each flex circuit, replace instrument cluster printed circuit.
