Test M: Oil Pressure Warning Never/Always On

  1. Start engine and determine if oil pressure warning is always or never on. If low oil pressure warning is always on, turn engine off and go to next step. If warning light is never on, go to step  4 .
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Disconnect oil pressure switch harness connector C1025. If warning light is illuminated, go to next step. If warning light is not illuminated, replace oil pressure switch.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C251. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 3 (White/Red wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C251. See Figure . If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in White/Red wire. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace instrument cluster printed circuit.
  4. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connectors C250 and C251. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage at terminal No. 10 (Red/Yellow wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C250. See Figure . If battery voltage exists. If battery voltage does not exist, repair power distribution circuit. See appropriate wiring diagram in POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  5. Connect instrument cluster harness connectors. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect oil pressure switch harness connector C1025. Using a fused jumper wire, ground White/Red wire terminal at oil pressure switch harness connector C1025. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Observe oil pressure warning light. If warning light is not illuminated, go to next step. If warning light is illuminated, replace oil pressure switch.
  6. Remove jumper wire. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C251. Measure resistance in White/Red wire between oil pressure switch harness connector C1025 and terminal No. 3 at instrument cluster harness connector C251. See Figure . If resistance is 3 ohms or less, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. If resistance is greater than 3 ohms, repair open in White/Red wire.
