Test J: Brake Warning Light Never/Always On
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If brake warning indicator is always on, go to next step. If brake warning indicator is never on, go to step 6 .
- Ensure parking brake is completely released. Ensure brake fluid reservoir is full. If parking brake was released and brake fluid reservoir full, go to next step. If parking brake was not released and/or brake fluid reservoir was not full, correct the condition.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect brake fluid level switch harness connector C177. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If brake warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If brake warning indicator is still on, repair short to ground in Light Green/Yellow wire between brake fluid level switch and ignition switch or instrument cluster. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance between brake fluid level switch terminals No. 1 (Light Green/Yellow wire terminal) and No. 3 (Black wire terminal) at component side. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, replace brake fluid level switch.
- Disconnect parking brake switch harness connector C2010. Measure resistance between ground and Light Green wire terminal at brake fluid level switch harness connector. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Light Green wire. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace parking brake switch.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure continuity between terminals of brake warning indicator bulb. If continuity exists, install bulb and go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace bulb.
- Disconnect brake fluid level switch harness connector C177. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C251. Measure resistance in Light Green/Yellow wire between brake fluid level switch harness connector C177 and terminal No 4 at instrument cluster harness connector C251. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open Light Green/Yellow wire.
- Measure resistance between brake fluid level switch terminals No. 1 (Light Green/Yellow wire terminal) and No. 2 (Light Green wire terminal) at component side. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace brake fluid level switch.
- Disconnect parking brake switch harness connector C2010. Measure resistance in Light Green wire between parking brake switch harness connector C2010 and brake fluid level switch harness connector C177. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Light Green wire.
- Inspect instrument cluster printed circuit. If printed circuit is okay, replace parking brake switch. If printed circuit is not okay, replace instrument cluster printed circuit.
