DTC P1881: Engine Coolant Level Switch Input Circuit Failure Or DTC P1882: Engine Coolant Level Switch Short To Ground
- Ensure engine is cold. Check engine coolant level. If engine coolant level is low, go to next step. If coolant level is okay, go to step 3
.
- Fill engine coolant to COLD FILL mark. Start engine and observe LOW COOLANT indicator on instrument cluster. If LOW COOLANT indicator does not operate properly, go to next step. If LOW COOLANT indicator operates properly, system is okay at this time. Check for coolant leaks.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Using NGS tester, monitor Generic Electronic Module (GEM) PID COOLANT. Disconnect engine coolant level switch harness connector C100. If PID did not change from NOTOK to OK, go to next step. If PID changed from NOTOK to OK, replace engine coolant level switch.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect GEM harness connector C223. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 9 (White/Black wire) at GEM harness connector C223. See Fig 1
. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace GEM. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in White/Black wire.
