DTC P1883: Engine Coolant Level Light Circuit Failure

  1. Check Indicator Light  - Turn ignition on. If engine coolant level indicator light is not on at all times, go to step 4). If engine coolant level indicator light is on at all times, go to next step.
  2. Check Black/Pink Wire Circuit  - Turn ignition off. Disconnect GEM harness connector C236. See Figure - Figure . Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and GEM harness connector C236 terminal No. 9 (Black/Pink wire). If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace GEM. Retest system.
  3. Check Black/Pink Wire For Short To Ground  - Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C250. See Figure - Figure . Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster connector C250 terminal No. 12 (Black/Pink wire). If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Black/Pink wire. Retest system. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. See PRINTED CIRCUIT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system.
  4. Check Black/Pink Wire For Short To Battery  - Turn ignition off. Disconnect GEM harness connector C236. See Figure - Figure . Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and GEM harness connector C236 terminal No. 9 (Black/Pink wire). If battery voltage exists, replace GEM. Retest system. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step.
  5. Check Black/Pink Wire For Open  - Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C250. See Figure - Figure . Measure resistance of Black/Pink wire between instrument cluster connector C250 terminal No. 12 and GEM harness connector C236 terminal No. 1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Black/Pink wire. Retest system.
  6. Check Bulb  - Remove engine coolant level bulb from instrument cluster. Measure resistance of bulb. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace bulb. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. See PRINTED CIRCUIT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system.
