Brake Warning Light Never/Always On
- Turn ignition switch on. If Red brake warning indicator does not illuminate, go to step 6). If Red brake warning indicator illuminates, go to next step.
- Ensure parking brake is completely released. Ensure brake fluid reservoir is full. If parking brake was released and brake fluid reservoir full, go to next step. If parking brake was not released and/or brake fluid reservoir was not full, correct the condition and retest system.
- Turn ignition switch off. Disconnect brake fluid level switch connector (Gray 3-pin). Turn ignition switch on. If Red brake warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If Red brake warning indicator illuminates, repair Light Green/Yellow wire between brake fluid level switch and ignition switch or instrument cluster. See WIRING DIAGRAMS.
- Turn ignition switch off. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between brake fluid level switch connector terminals No. 1 and No. 3. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, replace brake fluid level switch.
- Turn ignition switch off. Disconnect parking brake switch connector. Measure resistance between parking brake switch connector terminal and brake fluid level switch connector terminal No. 2 (Light Blue/Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace parking brake switch. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Light Green wire between parking brake switch and Daytime Running Light (DRL) module connector/jumper or Light Blue/Black wire between DRL module connector/jumper and brake fluid level switch.
- Turn ignition switch off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure continuity between terminals of Red brake warning indicator bulb. If continuity exists, reinstall bulb and go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace bulb and retest system.
- Disconnect brake fluid level switch connector. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C251. Measure resistance of Light Green/Yellow wire between instrument cluster connector C251 terminal No. 4 and brake fluid level switch connector. See Figure - Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster printed circuit and retest system. See PRINTED CIRCUIT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Light Green/Yellow wire.
