Door Ajar Indicator Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect NGS tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Monitor PID IGN_GEM while turning key to each position. If PID values agree with key positions, go to next step. If PID values do not agree with key positions, see STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.
  2. Retrieve continuous and on-demand DTCs. If no DTCs are present, go to step 4). If DTC B1322 or B1330 are present, see appropriate ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS wiring diagram in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in the WIRING DIAGRAMS section. If DTC B1325 is present, go to step 9). If DTC B1323 is present, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition on. Using NGS tester, monitor PID DRAJR_L. Toggle active command AJAR LAMP ON and OFF. If PID DRAJR_L reads correct state, replace GEM. GEM is located behind center of instrument panel. Clear DTCs and retest system operation. If PID DRAJR_L reads OFF-B, go to step 9). If PID DRAJR_L reads OFFO-G, go to next step.
  4. Check oil pressure gauge operation. If oil pressure gauge operates properly, go to step 6). If oil pressure gauge does not operate properly, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and standard instrument cluster connector C215 terminal No. 8 (Red/Yellow wire) or optional instrument cluster connector C214 terminal No. 3 (Red/Yellow wire). See Figure and Figure . If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Red/Yellow wire.
  6. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance of standard instrument cluster connector C214 terminals No. 11 and No. 13 (component side). Measure resistance of optional instrument cluster connector C214 terminal No. 11 and instrument cluster connector C215 terminal No. 8 (component side). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, check door ajar bulb in cluster and replace as necessary. If bulb is okay, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. See PRINTED CIRCUIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Clear DTCs and retest system.
  7. Disconnect Generic Electronic Module (GEM) connector C221. GEM 26-pin connector C221 is located behind center of instrument cluster. Measure resistance of Black/Orange wire between GEM connector C221 terminal No. 9 and instrument cluster connector C214 terminal No. 11. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black/Orange wire. Clear DTCs and retest system.
  8. Measure resistance between ground and GEM connector C221 terminal No. 9 (Black/Orange wire). If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace GEM. Clear DTCs and retest system. If measured resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Black/Orange wire. Clear DTCs and retest system.
  9. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect Generic Electronic Module (GEM) connector C221. GEM 26-pin connector C221 is located behind center of instrument cluster. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and GEM connector C221 terminal No. 9 (Black/Orange wire). If voltage is present, repair short to voltage in Black/Orange wire. Clear DTCs and retest system. If no voltage is present, go to next step.
  10. Using NGS tester, monitor PID DRAJR_L. Set active command ajar light off. If PID DRAJR_L reads OFF---?, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. See PRINTED CIRCUIT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Clear DTCs and retest system. If PID DRAJR_L does not read OFF---?, replace GEM. Clear DTCs and retest system.
