Brake Warning Light Never/Always On

  1. Turn ignition switch on. If Red brake warning indicator does not illuminate, go to step 6). If Red brake warning indicator illuminates, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch off. Disconnect brake fluid level switch 3-pin connector. Connect jumper wire between ground and brake fluid level switch 3-pin connector (Purple/White wire). Turn ignition switch on. If Red brake warning indicator does not illuminate, go to step 4). If Red brake warning indicator illuminates, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition switch off. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and brake fluid level switch 3-pin connector (Black wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace brake fluid level switch. Retest system.
  4. Turn ignition switch off. Disconnect parking brake switch connector. Measure resistance of Purple/White wire between ignition switch connector C209 terminal No. P1 and brake fluid level switch 3-pin connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Purple/White wire between brake fluid level switch and ignition switch connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  5. Measure resistance between parking brake switch connector (Light Blue/Black wire) and brake fluid level switch connector (Purple/White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Purple/White or Light Blue/Black wire between brake fluid level switch and parking brake switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  6. Place transmission in Park (A/T) or Neutral (M/T). Release parking brake. Turn ignition off. Disconnect brake fluid level switch connector. Turn ignition on. If Red brake warning indicator does not illuminate, replace brake fluid level switch. If Red brake warning indicator illuminates, go to next step.
  7. Disconnect parking brake switch. Turn ignition on. If Red brake warning indicator illuminates, repair short to ground in Purple/Yellow wire between instrument cluster and brake fluid level switch. Retest system. If Red brake warning indicator does not illuminate, replace parking brake switch. Retest system.
