Temperature Gauge Inaccurate

  1. Turn ignition on. If instrument cluster warning indicators and gauges are not operating, go to WARNING LIGHTS & GAUGES INOPERATIVE test. If instrument cluster warning indicators and gauges are operating, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect engine coolant temperature sensor connector. Turn ignition on. If temperature gauge does not show "C", go to step 4). If temperature gauge shows "C", go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Connect jumper wire between ground and temperature sensor connector terminal (White/Red wire). If temperature gauge does not show "H", go to next step. If temperature gauge shows "H", replace temperature gauge sending unit.
  4. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C1. See Figure and Figure . Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster connector C1 terminal No. 11 (White/Red wire). If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in White/Red wire.
  5. Turn ignition off. Measure resistance of White/Red wire between instrument cluster connector C1 terminal No. 11 and temperature gauge sending unit connector terminal. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open White/Red wire.
