Speedometer Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Retrieve continuous DTCs and note for reference. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. Clear continuous DTCs. Road test vehicle for 5 minutes. Retrieve continuous DTCs. If DTC P0500, P0501, P0502 or P0503 are present, go to appropriate TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section. If DTC P0500, P0501, P0502 or P0503 are not present, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect VSS connector. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance of White/Blue wire between instrument cluster connector C2 terminal No. 5 and VSS harness connector. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in White/Blue wire.
