Seat Belt Warning Indicator Always On (Chime Operative)

  1. Turn ignition on. Ensure seat belt is buckled. If seat belt chime is off and seat belt warning indicator is illuminated, go to next step. If seat belt chime is on and seat belt warning indicator is illuminated, repair chime module circuit. See WARNING SYSTEMS wiring diagram in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in the WIRING DIAGRAMS section. If seat belt chime is off and seat belt warning indicator is not illuminated, system is okay.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect junction block 4-pin connector C362. See Figure . Junction block is located under left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition on. If seat belt warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If seat belt warning indicator illuminates, go to step 4).
  3. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster connector C1 terminal No. 6 (Black/Blue wire). See Figure and Figure . If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. See PRINTED CIRCUIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Black/Blue wire.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect junction block 4-pin connector C362. See Figure . Junction block is located under left side of instrument panel. Remove Central Timer Module (CTM) from junction block. CTM is plugged into junction block 20-pin connector C23. Turn ignition on. If seat belt warning indicator illuminates, repair or replace junction block. If seat belt warning indicator does not illuminate, replace CTM.
