Low Coolant Indicator Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect low engine coolant level switch. Low engine coolant level switch is located in coolant reservoir on right side of engine compartment. Connect jumper wire between low engine coolant level switch connector terminals. If low engine coolant level indicator illuminates for more than 5 seconds and coolant level is below switch in reservoir, replace low engine coolant level switch. If low engine coolant level indicator illuminates for more than 5 seconds and coolant level is above switch in reservoir, lower engine coolant level and retest system. If low engine coolant level indicator illuminates for 5 seconds or less, go to next step.
  2. Measure resistance between ground and low engine coolant level switch connector Black wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Black wire.
  3. Disconnect instrument interface module. Instrument interface module is located behind left side of instrument panel. Measure resistance of White/Green wire between instrument interface module connector terminal No. 12 and low engine coolant level switch connector. See Fig 1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open White/Green wire.
  4. Connect jumper wire between ground and instrument interface module connector terminal No. 13 (Black/Yellow wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, check low engine coolant level indicator bulb and replace as necessary. If bulb is okay, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. See PRINTED CIRCUIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Black/Yellow wire.
  5. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C1. See Figure , Figure and Fig 1 . Measure resistance of Black/Yellow wire between instrument interface module connector terminal No. 13 and instrument cluster connector C1 terminal No. 14. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, check low engine coolant level indicator bulb and replace as necessary. If bulb is okay, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. See PRINTED CIRCUIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/Yellow wire.
