Fuel Gauge Reads Inaccurately
- Turn ignition on. If instrument cluster warning indicators and
gauges are not operating, go to WARNING LIGHTS & GAUGES INOPERATIVE
test. If instrument cluster warning indicators and gauges are
operating, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel pump sending unit connector
located under rear seat. Turn ignition on. If fuel gauge does not show
empty, go to step 4). If fuel gauge shows empty, go to next
step.
- Turn ignition off. Connect jumper wire between ground and fuel
pump sending unit connector terminal No. 5 (White/Red wire). See
Fig 1
. If fuel gauge does
not show full, go to next step. If fuel gauge e shows full, replace
fuel pump sending unit.
- Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
under
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C2.

. Measure resistance
between ground and instrument cluster connector C2 terminal No. 4
(White/Red wire). If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next
step. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in
White/Red wire.
- Turn ignition off. Measure resistance of White/Red wire between
instrument cluster connector C2 terminal No. 4 and fuel pump sending
unit connector terminal No. 5. See Figure

. If resistance is
less than 5 ohms, check Black/Blue wire between fuel pump sending unit
connector terminal No. 4 and ground for an open and repair as
necessary. If Black/Blue wire is okay, replace instrument cluster. See
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
under
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open
White/Red wire.
