Oil Pressure Warning Never/Always On

  1. Start engine and determine if oil pressure warning is always or never on. If low oil pressure warning is always on, go to next step. If warning light is never on, go to step 4).
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position, with engine off. Disconnect oil pressure sensor connector. If warning light is illuminated, go to next step. If warning light is not illuminated, replace oil pressure sensor and retest system.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Measure resistance between cluster connector C251, pin No. 3 (White/Red wire) and ground. See Figure or Figure . If resistance is 10k/ohms or less, repair circuit No, 31 (White/Red wire) for short to ground. If resistance is more than 10k/ohms, replace instrument cluster printed circuit and retest system. See PRINTED CIRCUIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. Disconnect cluster connectors C250 and C251. Check for battery voltage at connector C251, pin No. 10 (White/Yellow wire) and pin No. 11 (Black/Yellow wire). Check continuity to ground at connector C250, pin No. 1 (Black wire). See Figure or Figure . If values are correct, go to next step. If values are not correct, repair suspect circuit(s) as required and retest system.
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect connector at oil pressure sensor. Connect a jumper wire from circuit No. 31 (White/Red wire) at harness connector to ground. See Figure or Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Observe oil pressure warning light. If warning light is illuminated, replace oil pressure sensor and retest system. If warning light is not illuminated, go to next step.
  6. Remove jumper wire. Disconnect cluster connector C251. Check resistance between cluster connector C251, pin No. 3 (White/Red wire) and circuit No. 31 (White/Red wire) at oil pressure sensor. If resistance is 3 ohms or less, replace instrument cluster printed circuit and retest system. See PRINTED CIRCUIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is more than 3 ohms, repair circuit No. 31 (White/Red wire) for open circuit and retest. See Figure or Figure .
