Test C1897: Variable Assist Power Steering Circuit Loop

FAILURE

  1. Check Steering Solenoid Circuits

    Disconnect SARC module connectors. Check resistance between connector 450 pin No. 26 (Purple/Yellow) and connector 451 pin No. 27 (Gray/Orange). See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to step 3). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  2. Check Steering Solenoid Resistance

    Disconnect steering solenoid connector. Check resistance across solenoid terminals. If resistance is 5-9 ohms, repair open circuit 86 (Gray/Orange) or circuit 153 (Purple/Yellow). Repeat self test. See SELF TEST  . If resistance is not 5-9 ohms, replace steering solenoid. Repeat self test. See SELF TEST  .
  3. Check Circuit 86 (Gray/Orange)

    Check resistance between connector 451 pin No. 32 (black) and pin No. 27 (Gray/Orange). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair short to ground. Repeat self test. See SELF TEST  . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  4. Check For Short-Circuit 153 (Purple/Yellow)

    Check resistance between connector 451 pin No. 26 (Purple/Yellow) and pin No. 57 (Black). If resistance is 10,000 ohms or more, go to step 7). If resistance is less than 10.000 ohms, go to next step.
  5. Check For Short To Power-Steering Solenoid

    Check resistance between connector 450 pin No. 26 (Purple/Yellow) and connector 450 pin No. 1 (Dark Green/Yellow). Check resistance between connector 451 pin No. 27 (Gray/Orange) and connector 450 pin No. 1 (Dark Green/Yellow). If resistance is 10,000 ohms or more in both tests, go to step 7). If resistance is less than 10,000 ohms in either test, go to next test.
  6. Check For Shorted Steering Solenoid

    Disconnect steering solenoid connector. Check resistance between connector 450 pin No. 26 (Purple/Yellow) and connector 450 pin No. 1 (Dark Green/Yellow). Check resistance between connector 451 pin No. 27 (Gray/Orange) and connector 450 pin No. 1 (Dark Green/Yellow). If resistance is 10,000 ohms or more in each test, replace steering solenoid. Repeat self test. See SELF TEST  . If resistance is less than 10,000 ohms in either test, repair short to power in tested circuit. Repeat self test. See SELF TEST  .
  7. Check Connectors

    Check all connector pins for damage and corrosion. If any problems are found, repair or replace as necessary. Repeat self test. See SELF TEST  . If no problems are found, replace SARC module. Repeat self test. See SELF TEST  .
