Test H - Tachometer Inoperative/Inaccurate
- Turn ignition off. Unplug 16-pin connector from instrument cluster. Unplug 3-pin distributor connector (2.5L) or ignition coil connector (2.0L). Measure resistance of Green wire between instrument connector terminal No. 5 and distributor or coil connector. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms. Measure resistance between same wire and ground. Resistance should be greater than 10 k/ohms. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance measurements are not as specified, repair Green wire.NOTE: Tachometer terminals specified in following step are printed on back of tachometer.
- Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance between the following pairs of terminals as specified:
- Tachometer "+" terminal and instrument cluster pin No. 6A.
- Tachometer "-" terminal and instrument cluster pin No. 9A.
- Tachometer TA terminal and instrument cluster pin No. 5B.
If all measurements are less than 5 ohms, replace tachometer. If any measurement is not less than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster printed circuit.
