Test U - Improper Safety Belt Warning Operation
- If safety belt warning chime works properly, go to next step. If warning chime is not okay, check warning chime and related circuits. See appropriate wiring diagram in WARNING SYSTEMS article.
- Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove safety belt warning indicator light bulb. Check continuity between terminals of bulb. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace safety belt warning indicator light bulb.
- Disconnect instrument cluster connector C1. See Figure
. Disconnect interior fuse junction panel connector C5. See Fig 1
. Measure resistance between instrument cluster harness connector C1, terminal No. 6 (Pink/White wire) and interior fuse junction panel connector C5, terminal No. 3 (Pink/White wire). Resistance should be less than 5 ohms. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C1, terminal No. 6 (Pink/White wire). Resistance should be greater than 10 k/ohms.
- If resistances are as specified, reconnect interior fuse junction panel connector C5 and go to next step. If resistances are not as specified, repair Pink/White wire between instrument cluster connector and junction panel connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
.
- Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C1, terminal No. 10 (Black/Yellow wire). See Figure
. Voltage should be greater than 10 volts. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, replace printed circuit and gauge contact clips. See PRINTED CIRCUIT
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair Black/Yellow wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
